World School Debating Championship

The World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) is the World Cup of competitive school debating, where high schoolers have the unique opportunity to represent their countries and compete against other national teams to be crowned the World Champions! ISDS is responsible for selecting the Indian team to compete at WSDC. In 2020, WSDC will be held at Mexico between July 7th – July 17th.
This tournament gives students a unique exposure to different cultures around the world and encourages them to create networks that last them forever. National teams engage in healthy competition for the championship, and along the way, learn to engage in constructive thought and speech, which act as tools of persuasion in their future.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Studying in a high school in India during 2019-2020.
- Between the ages of 13 and 18.
- In 11th grade or below, 12th grader only if they've represented ISDS in an international tournament in 18-19.
- Represent your country at the most prestigious international debating tournament.
- Learn to debate from some of the best coaches in the world.
- Travel to Mexico City and interact with people from different countries.
The Indian Debating Squad for 2020 will be selected from a National Selection Camp that takes place in December 2019 in Chennai. Selection Camp is spread over a week, and students are observed and judged based on their debating skill, knowledge, ability to work in teams, and rate of improvement and absorption of feedback.
To make it to the National Selection Camp, students can apply through ONLY ONE of the following two methods.
Personal Experience:
- A great learning experience from one of the best debaters in India.
- Prior experience of Asian Parliamentary Debating is a necessary trait!
